Flying experiences are truly unforgettable and provide you with memories to last a lifetime. Imagine being able to capture the spectacular views up in the sky to treasure forever... Well look no further, our partner Subiaco Photography offer this unique experience. Subiaco Photography took some time to fill out one of our partner interviews about their fantastic business. So sit back, take a read and view their open door photography flight experience here.
1. Let’s start with how Subiaco Photography began!
Subiaco Photography was started by Grant Duncan-Smith in 2007. Grant always had a love for aviation and aerial photography, so it was a great way to get up into the air.
2. Which city is your personal favourite to photograph from the sky out of Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg and why?
Cape Town is a personal favourite of mine. Seeing Table Mountain and Cape Town Harbour is always special and completely unique from different heights and views.
3. Describe your ‘Open Door Photography Flight’ in three words?
Exciting, Unique and Adventurous.
4. What would you advise for first time flyers who have a passion for photography, but might be apprehensive about an open door photography flight?
We operate a very different operation from similar worldwide open door experiences in that the aerial photographer is with you on the flight overseeing safety, you are securely strapped in and no feet, legs, items are allowed out of the helicopter during the flight. All these factors massively increase the safety and mitigate the risks of the doors-off flight.
5. What do you think are the main benefits of photography flights when compared to taking photographs on the ground?
The patterns and shapes you see from the air and the unique and unseen angles you can capture.
6. What do you enjoy the most about running Subiaco Photography?
The variety of work, from ground-based photography to aerial photography via helicopter or drones.
7. Do you have any exciting plans for Subiaco Photography in the future?
We are looking to add more locations for the Open Door Helicopter Experiences in Africa and expand our drone network to the rest of Africa.

Struggled to find directions to the place. No landline or telephone number in case you’re running late. Bad service from the information desk inside the V&A Waterfront. The cruise was nice. Can recommend to cater non-alcoholic beverages as well. The dinner at Quay 4 was okay. It had a tavern atmosphere and not a restaurant atmosphere. People drinking beer and eating is not for us. The food was a set menu that they had to go look for somewhere, but the food was okay. 6.5/10. read more >
Enjoyed the experience, Tuk Tuk arrived exactly on time at the stated venue. Gift, the Driver, quite knowledgeable on choices of wine farms which we hadn't been to before. Tuk Tuk itself was a bit old and noisy. Degree of difficulty in getting in and out of it. However, an enjoyable outing. read more >
A great time was had. We deferred to our driver on the best route and were not sorry. Only recommendation would be better marking of the pickup point. read more >
Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience, service provider was friendly and professional. Definitely would recommend this experience and would do it again! read more >
